Have you ever wondered why mothballs cause you to be so nauseated and feeling faint? Well, that's because they actually give off gases. Nou toe nou! If you are, like me, searching for a way to get rid of the dreaded smell, then listen up for the answer.
One of the things that makes shopping for secondhand and vintage clothes fun is that you'll never know what you're going to find. Except maybe clothes hangers... and that sharp, headache-inducing scent of mothballs. Not only are mothball fumes toxic, but they also don't smell good on clothes that you're going to wear. I know for a fact that they are also one of the chemicals in a cigarette. Thank goodness I quit.
Well firstly, wash all the clothes like you normally would but ADD 1 cup of WHITE VINEGAR to the washing powder. You can also add it to the softner dispenser. This neautralises the mothball smell and SOAP RESIDUE and softens the clothes.
Secondly, ventilate the area where they were situated/or the box while they are in the washer and then TUMBLE DRY the clothes which will then get rid of the vinegar smell.
Voila! There you have it. That's it. As simple as that. I tried it and it works.
Gorgeous! thanks for sharing this for us;)
